Safety management in Textiles industry
The purpose of this study was to determine how occupational safety compliance is related to employee performance in textile manufacturing companies in Kenya. The specific objectives of the study included: to determine the relationship between workers’ knowledge of safety standards in textile manufacturing companies in Kenya, to determine the effect of safety promotion policies in textile manufacturing companies in Kenya, to determine the effect of worker participation on the implementation of safety standards in textile manufacturing companies in Kenya, to determine how communication affects employee performance in textile manufacturing companies in Kenya, and to determine the moderating effect of management commitment on occupational safety compliance and employee performance in textile manufacturing companies in Kenya.
Theories that have underpinned the study include: Heinrich’s Domino Theory, Human Factors Theory, Behavioral Safety Theory, System Theory, and Social Exchange Theory.
The target population included all textile manufacturing companies in the export processing zone, of which there are 22 in the export processing zone program. This study included 400 respondents. This study adopted a descriptive cross-sectional research design. Data were collected using a questionnaire and key informant interviews. Data were reviewed, coded for computerized data entry.
